Belief Statement:
Engaging in reflective practice has invaluable benefits. Reflecting back on one’s thoughts, actions, and consequences can provide the necessary metacognition to effectively modify my teaching. Mistakes in teaching often slip by because of ruts in a routine. Taking the time to reflect on individual lessons and the day as a whole can allow my mind to slow down and actually process the events that occurred. Once I reflect, I can make decisions about how to improve my teaching and my reactions to students’ behavior or academic results. When I can make a change to my routine, my reactions, or my teaching, I can make it more effective, and know that the change I make can have an immense impact on students’ successes.
