Belief Statement
Differentiation means making learning accessible for all types of learners, which can simply mean good teaching. Good teaching means providing instruction that all students can engage in and relate to, like adding visual, auditory, kinesthetic, or interactive activities. Teaching with differentiation also means relating to students and making them feel welcome in the classroom, no matter what level that they are on. Differentiation begins with establishing good relationships with students and everyone involved in their education, including the student, their family, and my colleagues. By establishing an open relationship, I can be more aware of students’ individual needs and meet them where they are. Along with the things previously mentioned, differentiation means being prepared to provide instruction on all levels if the instruction is not flexible, including adaptations, accommodations, modifications, and extensions.
